Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as general reporter. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent in 1988. In 1992, she was made chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell has appeared on the TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debates in 1988 with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy reports, including arm control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to various summits while in the company of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
